Nancy Sjoberg Lakeshore
Stabilization
Location:
T113N, R22W,
Section 18,
Cedar Lake Township
Watershed:
Minor
Watershed #33135
Project:
¨ Bio-Retention
Basin (712)
¨ Critical
Area Planting (342)
Prior Condition:
There was an erosive slope and ephemeral gully directly
outletting into Cedar Lake. Lack of vegetation also resulted in
faster storm runoff with no benefit to wildlife.
Solution:
A
bio-retention basin and swale were installed to eliminate
ephemeral erosion. A surface intake was installed to convey
water to a stable outlet. A near-vertical bank was shaped and
planted. All areas were planted to beneficial native vegetation.
Reductions:
Soil saved: 9 tons per year
Phosphorus reduction: 11 pounds per year
Cost:
The total project cost was $8,618, with the landowner's portion
being $2,125, and the remaining funding coming from the Scott WMO Cost-Share Program ($3,846)
and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Bio-Engineering
Cost-Share Program ($2,647). Contributing partners were the
Scott Watershed Management Organization, the Scott Soil and
Water Conservation District and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife
Service. |
