Ridges of Sand Creek Golf Course Hole #5 Location: SE 1/4 Section 32, Sand Creek Township
Watershed: Major: MN River Sub-Watershed: Sand Creek
Project: ¨ A 300 Ft. Streambank Stabilization ¨ Cedar Tree Revetment ¨ Rock Barbs
Prior Condition: The main current of Sand Creek was eroding the toe of the bank on hole #5, resulting in a 20 ft. vertical bank. An eroded gully had formed leading down to the stream channel causing soil loss and sediment delivery into Sand Creek.
Solution: Rock barbs installed to deflect the main current away from the toe around the outside bend of the stream. Cedar tree revetment installed to reduce current flows and trap sediment along the toe of the streambank. A basin was installed to safely convey storm water runoff from the streambank to Sand Creek.
Reductions: Soil saved: 169 tons per year Sediment reduction: 120 tons per year Phosphorus reduction: 180 lbs. per year
Cost: The total project cost estimated was $27,000, final has yet to be determined once all bills are received.. The contributing partners were Scott Watershed Management Organization, MN Board of Soil and Water Resources Cost-Share Program, Ridges of Sand Creek Golf Course and Scott Soil and Water Conservation District.
