No-till Drill, Grass Seeder & Brillion Seeder Program

(Please Note We Are NOT a Distributor of the following Drills - We provide the drills as a service to Scott County, MN  landowners)

Fact Sheet

The Scott Soil and water Conservation District (SWCD) has three drills available to rent for use on lands in Scott County. The SWCD has a 15’ John Deere 1560 no-till drill, a 7’ Great Plains drill, and a 10" Brillion grass seeder. Rental rates for the drills depend on amount of residue in the fields. See our SWCD staff for rental rates applicable to your site.

Benefits of no-till:

No need for cultivation - The narrow rows a fast establishing crop canopy which results in less weed pressure and less potential for soil crusting

Fewer passes in field - Fewer secondary passes are needed to prepare fields for planting which results in substantial savings of time, machinery costs, fuel, and labor costs.

Improved soil quality - No-till reduces soil erosion, which leaves productive topsoil in place. Leaving crop residue in fields increases the water infiltration rate of the soil. More water is available for plant use and less likely to cause erosion from runoff.

Yields -Yields are comparable to and often exceed conventional systems resulting in more profits for you.
