The City completed several conservation practices in the Fall of 2007 to reduce erosion and sedimentation in an inlet channel to the Mill Pond. Practices installed include: Rock gabions to stabilize a severely eroded Streambank, Rock Outlet protection to eliminate scour erosion at the outlet of two large culverts and stream channel and bank stabilization on a wooded stretch of the stream  prone to erosion in several locations. Funding to help implement these practices was made available through the Scott Watershed Management.

Mary and Jim are both heavily involved in the Scott County Chapter of Pheasants Forever. The couple have also installed grassed waterways and water and sediment control basins to eliminate gully erosion in crop fields. Kerry Giesen

Kerry Giesen is an Environmental Science teacher at Jordan High School.  Mrs. Giesen has been selected as Land Steward of the Month because of her involvement with the SWCD Macroinvertebrate Program for the past three years.  The Macroinvertebrate Program is a volunteer program that students and/or adults collect benthic macroinvertebrates (bugs living in the stream bed, visible to the naked eye, and without a backbone) twice per year to determine the approximate water quality of the stream in question.  Sand Creek is monitored by the Jordan High School students.  Mrs. Giesen is taking her class to the Annual River Summit at the Science Museum of MN.  Mrs. Giesen is the first teacher from Scott County to bring her students to this event!  At the Summit, students will present the results of their stream and listen to professionals speak about water quality related topics.
