Storm Drain Stenciling Opportunity Available for Community Groups

Have you even seen “Dump No Waste, Drains to Lake” or “No Dumping, Drains to River” painted next to a storm drain? This is called Storm Drain Stenciling and is used to remind everyone to be mindful of what goes down the storm drain. The Scott Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) in Jordan has a storm drain stenciling kit available for community groups across Scott County to use. The SWCD provides everything your group will need for the project including stencils, paint, and traffic cones. We also provide door hangers that the group can distribute to residents in area where they are working to explain the project to those in the neighborhood. This community service project teaches group members about storm water pollution and gives them a chance to share what they have learned with local residents. Please contact Sarah Gossman at the Scott SWCD at sgossman@co.scott.mn.us or 952-492-5448 with any questions or to set up a storm drain stenciling day. The City of Prior Lake has its own storm drain stenciling program, so if you are interested in stenciling in Prior Lake, contact Pete Young at pyoung@cityofpriorlake.com.
