This summer the Scott SWCD is hosting an intern through the Conservation Corps of Minnesota and Iowa. We are excited to have Shelby Roberts join our team for the summer. Shelby will be specializing on cooperative weed management, mapping invasive species, marketing, and dipping her toes in a wide variety of other conservation management practices. She is eagerly looking forward to exploring the beauty that Scott County has to offer while also mapping the land for future restoration projects.
Shelby recently graduated from the University of Wisconsin La-Crosse with a major in Biology and a double minor in Environmental Studies and Professional Writing. She has experience working at various boat launches and prairie fields around the La Crosse and Eden Prairie area providing public regulation and education on invasive species.
Originally from Eden Prairie, Shelby appreciated all the local hiking and biking trails the cities had to offer, and quickly fell in love with backpacking, hiking, and canoeing. If anyone is looking for the perfect weekend getaway, Shelby recommends traveling to the Kickapoo Valley Reserve in western Wisconsin for the most beautiful views of drifltess zone bluffs. You will not be disappointed!
Shelby will work for the Scott SWCD from May – August 2017.
