Roughly 25-30% of what we throw away is food-soiled paper products and food scraps. In organic recycling programs, waste is recycled into valuable compost used in landscaping and road construction projects
Why is organic recycling so important?
Recycling organic materials like paper, food, and yard waste from your home keeps valuable materials out of landfills and allows that waste to be reused. Organic recycling turns materials that would otherwise sit in landfills into usable compost for soils and materials for road construction projects within the county.
Scott County is working with garbage haulers, cities, and businesses to extend resources to dispose of garbage and recycling to Scott County residence.
