TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE & COST SHARE PROGRAM

The Technical Assistance and Cost Share (TACS) Program supports implementation of “on-the-ground” conservation projects that protect and improve water quality in rivers, lakes, streams and other valuable water resources in Scott County.  Landowners and local units of government can request technical assistance and funding assistance (cost share) through the SWCD for implementation of practices.

TACS is implemented by the SWCD throughout Scott County through partnership agreements with four water management agencies, including Scott Watershed Management Organization, Prior Lake Spring Lake Watershed District, Vermillion River Watershed Joint Powers Organization, and the Lower Minnesota River Watershed District.

Are you interested in implementing conservation farming practices such as no-till or cover crops?  Are wind and water carrying away your topsoil?  If so, we can help.  We offer technical assistance to help design your projects and cost share may be available for up to 90% of the cost of materials and installation.

Does the Minnesota Buffer Law require that you add buffers to your farm?  We can help you figure out if and where buffers are required. We offer technical assistance to help design your buffer and offer $200 per acre for cool season grass buffers and $500 per acre for native grass buffers.  The map of required buffers and answers to common questions on the buffer law are available here.  Even if you are not required to put in a buffer, they are still a beneficial option for many farmers.  Buffers that are not required by the buffer law are eligible for a $300 per acre incentive.

Do you have too much lawn and want to learn about planting a native prairie?   If so, we can help.  We offer technical assistance to design your project, cost share for establishing the prairie, plus a financial incentive.   Is there an area on your property that would benefit from planting more trees?  If so, we offer technical assistance to create a tree plan.

Is your lawn sluffing off into the lake?  Are the banks of your stream eroding?  If so, we can help.  We offer technical assistance to help design your project and cost share may be available for up to 75% of the cost of materials and installation.

Is your rain water just running into the gutter when it could be captured by a beautiful raingarden and put back into the ground?  If so, we can help.  We offer technical assistance to design your raingarden, plus a financial incentive once the raingarden is planted.
